The Mutua Madrid Open is preparing a clay court for top ATP and WTA stars to practice at the Bernabeu, a famous soccer stadium in Madrid, from April 23 to 30 during the tournament at the iconic Caja Magica tennis center which goes from April 23 to May 3.
“Ever since its first year, the Mutua Madrid Open has stood out above any other tournament on the tour, and it has never stopped implementing initiatives like this one”, said tournament CEO Gerard Tsobanian in a press release. “This year’s proposal will undoubtedly raise the bar even higher; initiating a collaboration with one of the best stadiums in the world, the Bernabeu, home of Real Madrid, and will place the Mutua Madrid Open in a unique category that includes only the best.”
The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium previously hosted the 1982 FIFA World Cup final, the 1964 European Nations’ Cup final, four European Cup finals, and the 2018 Copa Libertadores final. The Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders played a regular NFL season game there last November.
The Mutua Madrid Open, which already boasts the most spectacular light conditions in the world, will likely feature Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff and other top players.
